We’ve been busy. Across our last two releases, the Worklio API leveled up from a great payroll-and-onboarding toolkit into a true end-to-end people-operations platform — and we’re genuinely excited about what you’ll be able to build with it. New domains, modernized APIs, real-time payroll runs. Let’s dig in.
Time & Attendance: From the First Punch to the Final Paycheck
This is the big one. Our brand-new Time & Attendance API closes the loop between when work happens and when it gets paid— and it’s a complete system, not a stub.
Drive the time clock straight from your own app: start, stop, and edit punches, and read live status for one employee or your entire company in real time. Sitting on top of those events are timesheets, work setups, and ready-made daily, period, and team summaries — so you can ship dashboards and approval screens without recomputing a single total.
And the parts everyone forgets until an audit? We built those in too:
Missing meal and rest breaks are surfaced automatically — and you can resolve them
Attestations capture employee confirmation of reported time
Managers approve or disapprove a whole date range in a single call
Every timecard gets versioned day-notes with per-day permissions and full history, plus a change log you can review and resolve
If you’ve ever stitched timekeeping together by hand, this one’s going to feel like a gift.
Benefits That Finally Match Real Life
Benefits aren’t a one-and-done event, so we rebuilt the Benefits & Deductions API around how enrollment actuallyworks — and nearly doubled its size in the process.
Enrollment flows for New Hire, Open Enrollment, and Qualifying Life Events (QLE)
Qualifying Life Event requests — discover event types, create and update requests, and attach supporting files
Richer read models — an employee benefits overview, single benefit/deduction detail, and a clean, category-grouped summary
A new generation of benefit models (beneficiaries, dependents, garnishments, miscellaneous deductions) means cleaner, more consistent data everywhere you touch it.
Payroll: Now in Real Time, and in Stunning Detail
Payroll got two rounds of serious love.
First we went deep: finalize a locked run, change its pay date, paginate through history, run the full void-payroll workflow by policy and year, bulk-create earning codes, assign employees to policies in bulk, skip a scheduled run, and pull per-FEIN overviews. Multi-policy companies got easier too — history and overview models now carry policy ID and name.
Then we went modern, and this is where it gets fun:
Drill all the way into check- and transaction-level detail
Edit individual paylines on a paystub
Manage employee pay allocations directly
Unblock a stuck run with one call
Bulk-add employees with Server-Sent Events — so your UI streams real-time progress instead of staring at a spinner
Payroll runs now stream real-time progress and open all the way down to individual paylines.
New Integrations: General Ledger and Electronic W-4s
Two additions your finance and onboarding teams will love.
The Client General Ledger API pushes finalized payrolls straight into your accounting stack. Connect QuickBooks Online (and other connectors) over OAuth, map your bank accounts, configure simplified mappings, and export — with built-in retry, alerts, and detailed line-item views for painless reconciliation.
The W-4 Requests API runs the entire electronic W-4 workflow end to end: create a request, generate the employee’s workflow URL, track employer verification, drive the tax-setup step, exchange documents, and finalize. No paper, no email chains.
Plus a new Billing module in the System API lets you read fee configurations and billing history — per client or across your entire book of business.
A Cleaner Time-Off Requests API
We reworked the Time-Off Requests API around clear, resource-style routes, with explicit request policies, per-employee policy assignment, and handy balance and duration calculators.
Heads-up for existing integrators: the older
…/timeoffrequests…routes were replaced by the new hyphenated routes (for example…/timeoff-requestsand…/timeoff-request-types). If you built against the previous endpoints, plan a quick update — it’s worth it.
The Bottom Line
You can now build a dramatically larger slice of the employee lifecycle on Worklio — from clocking in, through benefits enrollment and life events, all the way to a fully detailed payroll that flows straight into your general ledger. That’s a lot of surface area, and a lot of new things to build.
Jump into the updated API Reference to explore every new endpoint, skim the changelog for the full list — and tell us what you want next. We’re just getting started.
